Franchisee charity rescue day raises £5,000 for Hearing Dogs

15 September 2017

A spectacular charity rescue day organised by Wagging Tails franchisees Hilary Coates (Wiltshire) and Alexis Bennett (Gloucestershire) has raised over £5,300.00 for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

“Take the Plunge II” took place at South Cerney Lake in Gloucestershire on Saturday 9th September and was run in association with Newfound Friends, a charity that uses specially trained Newfoundland Dogs to help raise money for other charities. Over 30 volunteer “casualties” were rescued from the lake as the incredible Newfoundlands leapt from a boat and towed them to safety.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People volunteer Linda Buckland, and recipient of Hearing Dog Fidgey, attended the day and had this to say of her experience,

“We enjoyed the day and it was lovely to see the volunteers having fun and feeling absolutely wonderful after their experience, their smiles say it all. I would like to say a big thank you to Hilary, Alexis, Jim, Lisa and all your helpers, for organising this wonderful event and all the hard work you all put in to making this a success”.

Hilary was overwhelmed with the success of the day commenting,

“It was another incredible day and I have been blown away by the level of support we received. Our top two sponsors both raised over £700 individually and we have nearly double the amount raised at the event two years ago”.

Alexis added,

“Newfound Friends have been fantastic and the dogs put on a spectacular show. Thank you to everyone who took part and all those people who supported the event”.

Wagging Tails have been working with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People since January 2014 and this was the second “Take the Plunge” event run in support of the charity. In the three and half years they have been working together Wagging Tails have now raised over £16,000 for Hearing Dogs through a variety of fundraising activities.
