Tell us a bit about the background to Sanondaf

They say the simple stories are always the best.........

Sanondaf was founded in Malta as a result of a recurring outbreak of MRSA in Malta’s largest hospital, which unfortunately resulted in patient fatalities. As one of Europe’s largest hospitals, with 1100 beds and average occupancy rates of 104%, it was essential to the safe running of a major healthcare facility to establish the cause of the outbreak. This led to lengthy and  determined investigations to find the source of this deadly infection. In this case, the source  was eventually traced to the vent at the rear of a television within the ward, which lead to a major rethink of infection control and cleaning protocols. This resulted in 2 entirely new process, Sanofogging and Sanostatic spraying, both of which involve transforming a patented, highly effective chemical into a dry mist, to achieve 100% coverage of all surfaces and objects within the area being treated, including all the places traditional cleaning couldn’t or didn’t reach, such as electronic devices or the individual slats on a Venetian blind.

In the 2 years since the new protocols were introduced, the rate of hospital acquired infections has reduced by more than 50% and the Sanondaf process is now a permanent feature within the hospital’s standard infection control procedures. The added benefits are the significant time and cost savings, as an average room or treatment area is clinically disinfected in 10-15 minutes, and the treated area is only out of commission for only 60-90 minutes. The process is undertaken in a completely touch-less way, meaning the treatment can be carried out by a single operator, making it highly efficient when compared to traditional manual disinfection methods.

And it works everywhere?

The Sanondaf solution is a highly efficient and effective method of destroying 99.99% of harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi and mould. MRSA, E-coli, C-diff and the Flu virus (including swine Flu and Bird Flu) are just a small selection of the types of harmful things our process is designed to eliminate.

Our environmental credentials are very important to us, and our disinfectant is a highly effective, oxidizing disinfectant that kills 99.99% of all hazardous germs without posing a threat to humans, animals or plants. What’s more, the way in which our patented chemical eliminates the dangerous germs means that there is no risk of the germs building up bacterial resistance through time.

One of most recent high profile commissions was undertaken on behalf of the Maltese Football Association and UEFA, where we provided the Sanondaf touch-less disinfection process to protect the participants in UEFA Under 17 Championships held in Malta in May 2014.

Why now and why in the UK?

Public Health England reported in excess of 45,000 cases of e-coli, c-diff and MRSA in the year to April 2013. Those shocking statistics tell us that too many people are getting sick, and even dying, from infections they are acquiring in places that should be safer.

Infection control and outbreaks have unfortunately become daily news around the UK and you don't have to look very far to see a headline about an outbreak in a local hospital, nursing home, care facility or school which then requires deep cleaning, manpower and time to deal with and eliminate the bacteria or virus causing this. Fogging and Touch-Less Spraying is the Gold standard for dealing with this and it is quicker, cheaper and more effective as there is no risk of cross contamination, which is a major problem when dealing with these problems.

What makes your offering stand out?

Sanondaf is absolutely unique and there is currently no other franchise in the UK offering this type of Touch-Less Disinfection and Decontamination process.

With single territories priced at £15,000, the initial investment is low, with low ongoing costs as our franchisees don't require expensive operating premises. The entire process can be carried out by a single operator, allowing a franchisee to be fully in control of their staff costs and outlays. With a Gross Profit margin in the region of 80%, and a projected Turnover of £100k per annum for a single operator undertaking 4 x 1 hour jobs per day, the potential financial rewards are very clear to see.

It is also an easily scalable proposition for franchising, given the incredible opportunity that exists for the Sanondaf process.
