Aspray franchisees: Kevin and Andrea Deary
Kevin and Andrea Deary set up an Aspray franchise in Merseyside.
Why did you choose franchising?
We were both ready for a change of career and lifestyle. After a lot of careful research we realised that franchising can afford you these things, whilst giving you the confidence of knowing it’s a proven business, plus the benefit of an invaluable support network at the back of you.
Why an Aspray franchise in particular?
We looked at a lot of franchises. Aspray stood out to us because it provides a service which people need, is recession proof, does not require any cold calling – the customers come to you, and we like the fact that it’s a management business – so no getting our hands dirty!
We were also impressed with James and the team at head office. There was no hard sell, which we had experienced with other franchises, and we could see that we would be well trained and equipped to start our new business.
How has your social and work life changed since you began with Aspray?
Our life really has changed for the better, and we still consider ourselves new at this, and are still learning. We like the flexibility – being able to work when we choose, and particularly enjoy working together – we were unsure how that would go, but have found that we make a good team. We are also learning new skills that are equipping us to move the business forward.
Your thoughts for the future
We have learned a lot over the last nine months, now we feel it is time to start moving our business forward. We have a good data base of reliable contractors, we feel more confident because we have more knowledge and experience in dealing with insurance companies, which we found a bit daunting at first. We realise that we now have to fine tune our advertising in order to bring in more business.
What would you recommend to others considering franchising in general?
Research is so important! Don’t be rushed into doing anything you are unsure of. Pick something that you have an interest in. It is also important to have the full support of your family. Make sure you have working capital, bear in mind it is a new business which will only succeed if you are prepared to work hard, and follow the franchise model as closely as you can.
What would recommend to others considering an Aspray franchise?
This is a proven, successful business plan. Make the most of the course you will attend with David – it is invaluable if you follow what you learn as closely as possible.
Be reliable and punctual on the appointments – it really impresses potential clients who often have experienced disappointment in their dealings with builders and contractors.
Show confidence whilst dealing with clients, and insurance companies, who you will spend a lot of time talking to.
Aspray is a property franchise that has developed a lucrative and successful business managing building insurance claims, tenanted property refurbishments and general building services on behalf of the general public.
