Hair Salon Franchise Pleased That Former Employees Are Opening Salons

Rob Goggins, vice president of franchise development for Great Clips, Inc., recently recognized two former Great Clips employees who scaled lofty rungs from general managers to become salon franchise owners.

“Typically middle to upper-level executives who want to keep their day jobs and start a business are drawn to our Great Clips business model,” says Goggins.

“But when employees of our franchisees choose to further their careers by becoming franchisees themselves, that’s organic growth that builds on our family tree.”

Jackie Chandler is a good example. Jackie started in the business as a stylist, worked up to assistant manager, then to salon manager, and most recently to multi-salon general manager.

“In the first year as a Great Clips general manager, I knew I wanted to be a franchise owner,” said Chandler.

“I talked to franchisees and read everything I could about Great Clips, and it all reinforced my decision to invest my future in the company.

“When I was working for Great Clips, I learned the importance of following the system. And even though I’m now an owner, doing it the Great Clips way makes it almost turnkey, and has freed me to spend more time with my family.”

Paula Salouras is another general manager turned owner. “I knew when I started the process that Great Clips was going to be an even better fit as a franchisee,” said Salouras. “I made the right decision and it feels great.”

“If I could offer advice to any prospective franchise owner, it’s do your homework,” said Chandler. “Talk to everyone you can, build a plan, and stick to it. You just have to dream, believe and achieve.”
