When bought:

Kareem Naaman, Bar Sport franchisee for Maidenhead, on how he found the right business...

“I spent five years at an architectural practice as a document control manager. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t what I wanted to do.

“I have a lot of family in Orlando, Florida so I spent a lot of time over there. Whenever I’m over there I always look for somewhere to watch Premier League football, so I always spend a lot of time in the sports bars and grills.

“It made me think ‘why don’t we have more of this back at home in the UK?’ They love their drink, their food and their sport, so the concept I’ve always believed in and it’s a strong concept.

“I came across Bar Sport and Scott Murray [the founder], found out the company were franchising and decided to look at the package available. So I went up to Cannock and a Dsicovery franchise day, met Scott, saw the operation first hand and liked what I saw.

“I was very impressed with Scott and the package available and that was it really. I decided to go ahead.

On opting for a franchise model rather than going it alone...

“It was a no-brainer for me to do it with a tried-and-tested model rather than trying to do this myself. I’m new to the industry.

“For me to do something like this on my own without support from the franchise – I don’t know where I’d start to be honest. From that point of view it made a lot of sense.

“Plus you get the supplier discounts  as well, which was one of the main reasons I decided to go with Bar Sport.”
