Leading Sustainable Resin Driveway Company, Oltco, Celebrates Franchise Success

A company that makes driveways out of plastic straws has expanded its franchise operation by 450% in just one year. 

Oltco, the UK’s leading sustainable resin driveway company, started off 2019 with two franchises in Cornwall and Blackpool and by the end of the year this number had risen to 11. The award-winning business now covers the whole of England with franchises in Bath, Ipswich, Lancaster, Colchester, Northwich Cheshire, Plymouth, Derby, Gloucester and the 11th franchise that launched in December 2019 in Liverpool.

The success has been put down to Oltco’s ethos to feel good about the work it does and the decisions it makes, alongside the fantastic opportunities it offers for those keen to take up the challenge of working as a franchise. The flourishing business is looking forward to welcoming more people to the Oltco family in 2020.

James Gardner launched Oltco’s Bath franchise in June last year. He said: “For me, a franchise with Oltco ticked all the boxes for running my own business. From the company values and its high quality products through to its outstanding customer care and innovative outlook, everything resonated with me.”

Phil Power, who runs the franchise in Liverpool agreed. He said: “I’ve always known I wanted to be my own boss and achieving the work-life balance was so important to me. It was this, coupled with my passion for the environment, which attracted me to join the Oltco team. Oltco’s innovative and genuine approach and the mission to do good for the environment was something that echoed my own values.”

As well as the expansion of its franchise business, 2019 saw the launch of Oltco’s Recycle Bound, the world’s first recycled driveway solution to help combat the global issue of plastic waste. It is made utilising waste plastic which is already in circulation including straws, drink bottles and food packaging. Each square metre of Recycle Bound consists of the equivalent of 3,000 plastic straws so if Recycle Bound was laid on a standard 50 square metre drive, the equivalent of 150,000 plastic straws would be recycled in the process.

Oltco’s Founder and Co-Director Tom Stringer says it is this product alongside the opportunities Oltco offers potential franchisees that has driven the success of the business.

He said: “Last year was an incredible 12 months for us. We won awards, installed hundreds of resin-bound driveways up and down the country and launched Recycle Bound, our amazing product made from plastic straws. It was nonstop and brilliant!

But more importantly we have welcomed some amazing individuals to the Oltco team across the country which has been really exciting. There are lots of reasons why people are attracted to setting up a franchise with us and we’ve found each person has different reasons.
