The launch of Fit4less Scunthorpe was eagerly anticipated with the Scunthorpe Telegraph reporting that Fit4less would be the towns “first gym by a major chain”. The opening marks an amazing transformation for the site, which was a derelict former car showroom and is now a stunning 8,000 sq ft fitness facility.
Since opening, the gym has certainly lived up to expectations, from a spectacular launch party to consistently outperforming its targets, Fit4less Scunthorpe has been a hit for all involved.

1: When did you open?
Fit4less Scunthorpe opened on the 6th August 2015
2: How many members did you have on opening and how many members do you have now?
We had a fantastic pre-sales which meant that we actually opened the club with 1,188 members signed up, ready and waiting to use the club. 220 of these members joined on the opening day, which at the time was a new Fit4less record for memberships sales in a single day.
Four months after our opening the membership grew to over 2,060 members and we are obviously very pleased with this.
3: How does this compare to your sales targets?
Our performance both during pre-sales and post opening has put us well ahead of our business plan targets. In this we were targeted to achieve 1,700 memberships by the end of December 2015. Going into December with 2060 members we realised the businesses strong performance was actually closer to achieving our 5 year target of 2,182 memberships.
4: Why did you decide to open a fitness club, and specifically within a franchise model?
I wanted to combine my passion for fitness with a business and the Fit4less franchise provided me with the best opportunity to do this. What struck me the most about Fit4less and énergie was the family nature and genuine values that the company has. Yes there is a strong business ethos but it is not all consuming. People matter, there is a clear and honest intent with the common values and the organisation wants to see its franchisees grow with it. This approach really struck a chord with me and I knew that as a brand, énergie were the perfect partner for me.
5: What levels of support were you provided with by énergie, both pre-sales and since opening?
The levels of support throughout every stage of the process in setting up my club has been very high indeed. It was great to have so many people from Head Office help out on my opening day.
I have also been really impressed with the franchisee events that énergie puts on. In Quarterly Development Meetings and the Annual Évolution conference you can see the incredible amount of effort that goes into supporting franchisees.
6: Has your experience since opening Fit4less lived up to your expectations?
Definitely! My team and I are excited by how well things are going – the support from énergie has been great from day one and the gym has gone from strength to strength.
The Fit4less and énergie systems allow us to get on with what we do best. We really go out of our way to make sure our members feel welcomed and looked after and we maintain really high standards throughout the gym.
What's so reassuring is how well the club has been received by the community in Scunthorpe. From the amazing number of people who came along to our opening party to the number of enquiries we receive and members who join on a monthly basis, the response has been fantastic.
