Autosmart Embraces Challenge of 10K Charity Run.

21 August 2013

With only 1 month to go until this year’s Lichfield 10k, local charities, families and businesses are finalising their teams to ensure they are ready for the race.

Managing director Sophie Atkinson has always used running as a way of getting fit, and has found that entering local events gave her a challenge to work towards. Her enthusiasm has led to a company running team of 40 staff out of the 100 employees at the company. Sophie says “Training a company team towards a common goal has been fantastic, everyone encourages each other, as well as raising money for charity.”

Even though some members of staff were a bit worried about jogging or running the 6.2 miles, they have now embraced the challenge and are also working hard to fundraise. Individuals are running for different charities and, in addition to anything they raise, Autosmart will also give £100 to their chosen charity. This means Autosmart will give £4000 to charities as a result of running the Lichfield 10k.

In addition to the £100 already pledged by Autosmart, employee Liz Sherbourne hopes to raise an additional £200 for The Pathway Project in Lichfield.

“People arriving at the Pathway project are vulnerable and need help immediately,” says Liz, “as they often arrive with nothing. Donations help them start again and give their children a positive and happy outlook.”

Cass Jackson from Lichfield Running Club who are organising the event says that she is really excited about this year’s race taking place on September 8th. “Last year’s race attracted record numbers of runners, with many of them raising money for charities. The race is a brilliant way for local businesses to work together as a team and achieve something really positive together”.
