Sylvie leaves London for a ‘better’ life in Brighton

06 March 2013

After ten years working as a financial controller in a number of London-based International businesses, Sylvie Botquelen sought a new opportunity that would enable her to relocate to the south coast, find a better work-life balance and return to working in a small-business environment.

“I read about Betterclean Services and I thought – ‘hang on a minute, that looks interesting’. To find out more, I visited the Betterclean Services website. I did look at some other opportunities, but not at the same depth, because nothing really grabbed me. Most that I came across were like buying a job rather than investing in a new business opportunity. They were all heavily focused on selling and very product-based, which wasn’t what I was after. I’d have to say that the Betterclean Services franchise opportunity really stacks up well when compared to others that I investigated.”

So why did she choose to invest in a franchise rather than start her own business from scratch? Sylvie replies: “I liked the idea of having my hand held a little bit, to prevent me from making mistakes, while having the freedom to run my own business. I have experience of running businesses, but never my own, so running a franchise would allow me to benefit from someone else’s knowledge, experience and support. I know it will take a lot of hard work, but investing in a successful business model reduces risk. I like the fact that I’ll be involved in overseeing all aspects of my business – that’s very appealing.”

Sylvie has sold her home in East London and is relocating to Brighton. In her leisure time, she enjoys snowboarding and scuba diving, as well as getting out on her beloved Triumph Tiger 800 motorbike. “I suppose I haven’t quite grown up yet,” she laughs. “I’m really looking forward to both new challenges of living in a new place and starting a new business. As well as hopefully improving the quality of my life and my work-life balance, I’m relishing the opportunity of returning to work in a small business environment – that’s where I feel most at home – and where I’ll get the chance to do a bit of everything, which I prefer.”

"I  plan to get established as quickly and successfully as I can and then work hard to grow the business, possibly take on a business development manager at some point and then, long term, look to take on another territory. That’s one of the great things about the Betterclean Services business model – residual income. You don’t have to go out there every month looking for new customers, you’re able to retain customers, attract more and build your business into a much bigger and more successful venture.”
