"The Auditel brand promotes an image, a model and values which I believe in"

04 December 2012

Leamington Spa-based David Kendall joined the Auditel Cost Management Franchise in September 2011. He had qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant with the world’s largest accounting firm and held several corporate positions within a global top 50 company. Asked why he had decided on Auditel, David said: “I saw Auditel as a professional opportunity to run a business whilst utilising my core skill base and expertise. The brand promotes an image, a model and values which I believe in.”

In his first year of business, David signed over 25 clients from a wide range of sector and size. His extensive experience and analytical skills, combined with his passion for effective cost management, has resulted in substantial savings and he has built solid and trusting relationships.

David reports: “Very significant savings have been achieved in areas such as energy and communications, but particularly in other costs, such as carriage, packaging, stationery and consumables. Auditel excel in dealing with these often unheeded overheads and thereby differentiate themselves from other organisations in the marketplace.”

David’s largest saving, within 6 months of engagement, is in excess of £100,000. This is for one of his key clients, a substantial distribution business based in Coventry, David also reveals: “I have had meetings with a number of large household name plcs and all have been receptive. We are now in discussions to conduct the Auditel service within their organisations. All of these businesses have sizeable and talented Procurement Departments, which in itself is a statement of how unique and dynamic our facility is.”

One of Auditel’s abilities to win clients is by referrals through their Partnership Programme with accountancy practices. David has integrated the Auditel service into five mid-tier practices across the UK who form part of the MGI Association of Accountants. He is now working with the clients from their firms.

Asked about his suppliers, David said: “I have established a trusted network, of which some were recommended by Auditel and others have been sourced through my business or my clients.”

David says he has been overwhelmed by the co-operation and support of his colleagues, and the general team spirit that applies within Auditel. “My perception was that franchisees would be protective or “islands”. This could not be further from the truth. I work with many of my 200 colleagues to utilise their vast knowledge pool and view their specialist consultancy, advice and experience as an invaluable asset for my business.”

As to the future, David reveals: “I have invested a lot of time and effort and am working harder than ever. It is certainly not easy. However, the satisfaction and rewards that I get from my business make it more than worthwhile. I am adding genuine value to my clients’ bottom line and the feedback has been very positive. I am now seeking to expand through employing support and administration staff. I will continue to endorse our brand in being the leading cost management consultancy in the UK.”

Edward Brewer, Auditel’s Franchise Development Director, adds: “Franchising is becoming an increasingly attractive option for those looking to run a business for the first time. The latest NatWest/bfa survey reveals that nine out of 10 franchisees remain profitable.  As Brian Smart, Director General of the British Franchise Association said recently: “Yet again, franchising has demonstrated its inherent tenacity and stability, despite a tough climate last year.” ”
