Four awards in one night for Dream Doors Oxford

Tears and champagne flow as Checkatrade award announced

Dream Doors Oxford is a franchise of the UK's largest kitchen facelift retailer. Its owners, Elaine and Mike Hurley, won an unprecedented four awards at the Dream Doors Annual Conference held in Portsmouth last week.

Adding to their triple trophy haul from last year, the Hurleys regained their 'Franchisee of the Year' and 'Outstanding Monthly Performance' awards. They also won the 'Player's Player' award for the second year running, presented to them for their brand-building efforts and for the help and support they give to other Dream Doors franchisees.

“We're absolutely elated and still taking it all in,” says Elaine. “We went into the evening thinking we'd probably won two trophies, as all the showrooms' sales can be seen on the Dream Doors intranet. But the others were a total shock. We won the 'Player's Player' award last year, and didn't think it was possible to win it again. It's one that's voted for by all the franchisees and means a lot to Mike and I.”

After three visits to the stage, Elaine and Mike were called up one last time to share the Checkatrade 'Franchise of the Year' award with fellow franchisees, Mark and Amanda Edmans, from Dream Doors Chilterns.

“That's nine awards in three years, so we've just commissioned a new trophy cabinet,” jokes Mike. “We're proud of them all, but the Checkatrade award was out of the blue – it bought Elaine to tears! We're delighted to be sharing the award with Mark and Amanda too. They're a neighbouring franchise, and have become good friends of ours over the last couple of years. They really deserve the accolade.”

That trophy was presented to the Hurleys by Checkatrade's managing director Kevin Byrne, who said, “Choosing our 'Franchise of the Year' is actually quite a complex procedure, one that takes into account feedback and scores from customers, as well as how professionally and diligently a business is run. Elaine and Mike have been in the top three franchisees every year, and were narrowly beaten each time before. It's great to invite them up on stage to accept their award this year. I'm so pleased they won.”

Checkatrade is an independent consumer monitoring service. It encourages customers to submit their own comments online; an unbiased review that gives anyone thinking about buying a new kitchen – or one of Dream Doors' time and money-saving kitchen makeovers – an honest appraisal of the business and its personnel.

The Hurleys have more than 250 testimonials on Checkatrade's website and an average score of 9.8 out of 10. One satisfied customer in Abingdon said recently: “Excellent workmanship. I was very pleased with the result. My mother was so impressed that she had her kitchen done too.”
